Lately, Electronic arts has been communicating a lot about its eSport events for FIFA 21. After CONMEBOL eLibertadores at the beginning of the month, EA has announced the return of eChampions League to the EA Sports FIFA 21 Global Series. This edition will be the third since the creation of the competition and will adopt a new format. This will allow players to experience the best aspects of the UEFA Champions League in a virtual setting. The eChampions League is a competition open to FIFA 21 players who are FUT Verified and reside in Europe. Participants will need to register for the FIFA 21 Global Series and reach Elite 1 in Weekend League before December 31, 2020, to become FUT Champions Verified. The competition will start with the online qualifiers that will take place on February 1, 13, and 14 of 2021. The knockout stage will follow this phase and will take place between May 1 and 2. The Finals will naturally be the last phase and take place on May 28th crowning this season’s eChampions League winner. The online qualifier will have two stages while the knockout stage and finals will take place in one setting. Stage I of the qualifiers will take place on February 1, 2021, and concerns European PlayStation 4 FUT Champions Verified players, who were not invited to the eChampions League Online group stage. The top 64 participants will advance to stage II or group stage. Stage II will take place on February 13 and 14, 2021, and will take the form of a Swiss group stage and double-elimination bracket. The top 64 players of phase I will play against invited players (the top 64 players from each of the FIFA Global Series of 2019 and 2020 as well as the top 32 players from the 21 global series by January 27, 2021. During the knockout stage, the top 32 players from the group stage will play through another double-elimination bracket to select the top 8 players who will qualify for the finals. The champion will be decided after the top 8 players play through a last double-elimination tournament bracket. The knockout stage and the finals will be broadcasted on Twitch and YouTube.com.
