In most cases, these wishes are simple and not very expensive, but they have the power to transform a child’s life in a positive way. These children have been diagnosed with serious illnesses and will probably not reach adulthood. A Child’s Wish is an organization that grants these children their final wishes. These kids have been diagnosed with serious medical conditions and will probably not reach adulthood. Their age and illness keep them from enjoying many of the experiences that make life worth living: meeting their favorite athlete or TV star, going on vacation to an exotic location or simply having something they’ve dreamed of for so long—like learning how to play an instrument or taking up another hobby. These are children who are out of treatment, have been out of treatment for at least 6 months, and who face a life-long condition. Every child who is eligible for Make-A-Wish is medically fragile and facing a future that is unaddressable. We believe that every one of these children deserves a chance to dream big and experience joy. Every child who has faced a medical challenge knows they can’t always control the situation they’re in. But when they go on a wish and have an opportunity to imagine and dream, they can take control again and regain that sense of power. Each year we grant between 15,000 and 18,000 life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. But the demand for wishes is much higher than the supply. We wish we could grant every eligible child’s wish, but we don’t have enough resources to do so. Our mission is to make a child’s wish come true. We achieve this by recruiting volunteers, donors and members to help us.
